Caution! The IRS DOES NOT INITIATE CONTACT VIA E-MAIL. Beware: do not reply to any e-mails that come from the IRS. The IRS has issued a warning to taxpayers about numerous e-mail scams that are currently being circulated. Some of the current scams include receiving $80 for filling out an IRS e-mail survey and e-mails from the IRS "Fraud Department" to file an investigation report. All are cases where someone other than a legitimate IRS representative is trying to gain access to your confidential information to defraud you of your money or identity.
